Motors TV Weekly Highlights

3-9 June 2006

A Major Touring Attraction

The fourth round of the 2006 British Touring Car Championship heads south, to the Thruxton circuit, near Andover in Hampshire. Thruxton is a firm favourite with drivers and fans alike, with speeds up to 150mph on the UK’s fastest race circuit. After the series’ visit to Oulton Park, reigning champion Matt Neal leads the points standings but SEAT’s James Thompson and Jason Plato are hot on his heels, despite a weekend of mixed fortunes at Oulton Park. As ever, Motors TV will be showing all three BTCC races live, as well as all the support races from Sunday, also live.

Busch Babies

The 2006 NASCAR Busch series has only just entered June and it’s already onto its 14th round. This weekend, it heads for Dover, a one-mile oval track completely ensconced in grandstand seating. The surface is concrete and it’s the only track that the circus visits using this material, which gives its distinctive white appearance. Martin Truex Jnr won last year’s race but he’s languishing in 58th place in the 2006 points standings after 12 races, so it’s likely that another driver will be leaving Dover with the trophy. Motors TV is showing the complete race live, with all the action, thrills and spills.

We are most amused…

The 2006 Australian V8 Supercar series hits the Winton raceway in Victoria for the fourth round of the series. Winton is a favourite for the fans, as it’s one of just two circuits where they can camp out and the twisting nature means that there’s plenty of action to watch. Both Holden and Ford have won at Winton six times in the past, so both will be keen to add another victory to their tallies. Driver Mark Skaife will also be looking to add more wins to his record-equalling tally but leader Russell Ingal will be after more points. Motors TV will be showing all three races delayed, as live, one on Saturday and two on Sunday.

Diesel Do Nicely

The final edition of the Road To Le Mans series takes a look at one of the most innovative cars taking part in this year’s 24 hour race, the diesel-powered Audi R10. The car has already won, on its first major outing at the Sebring 12 Hours, a traditional warm-up and dress rehearsal for Le Mans. The smart money reckons that the combination of Audi’s legendary reliability and technical expertise and one of the strongest driver line-ups, including record winner Tom Kristensen, will help Audi to become the first manufacturer to win the famous race with a diesel engine.

Hello Moto…Cross

Fans of motorbike racing get a treat this week, as Motors TV shows highlights of the opening round of the American AMA MotoCross championship. American is the breeding ground for some of the best motocrossers around – Travis Pastrana is just one example of the breed. The first round of the 2006 series, the Hangtown Classic, comes from Sacramento in California and Motors TV will be showing highlights of both the 125cc and the 250cc class action.
