FOR THE 2006 NÜRBURGRING 24 HOURS!
The selections for the 2006 Nürburgring 24 Hours Motors TV Racing Team took place at the Magny-Cours Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit on Wednesday 17th May, as the “High Speed Television” channel continued its recruitment challenge, this time in search of one driver and four mechanics.
Twenty drivers attended the selection on the circuit, at the wheel of the First Racing and Renault Sport Mégane RS Trophy cars. The drivers were faced with a slalom test, ‘driver-change’ workshop, timed laps, and interviews with the panel of judges. In the end Patrick Segura was the winner of the day, ahead of Joël Stere (current Andros Trophy driver). Patrick was rewarded for his tenacity and the progress he made throughout the year, having previously entered the 2005 selections as well.
Several mechanical workshops were also set-up within the First Racing organisation in the search for the team’s mechanics. The challenges presented included: brake pad changes, repairs to an exhaust manifold, tyre fitting, disassembly and reassembly of axels, repairs to differentials etc.
The winning mechanics were Gabriel Mestre (policeman), Benoit Courdent (farmer), Sébastien Soyer (foreman in a dealership) and Guillaume Barrachim (specialised automotive technician). They will all join Patrick Segura for the race on 17th and 18th June with the First Racing team of Fabien Giroix, for whom they will prepare the Clio RS car.
It will be a tough challenge to equal or even do better than Jean-Michel Dewez last year. The winner of the 2005 selections went on to win his class and finish 30th overall in the 2005 Nürburgring 24 Hours!...
Motors TV Racing Team selections: 1st edition on Monday 29th May at 19h00.
