Westbrook returns to Carrera Cup

Richard Westbrook will return to race in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Thruxton this weekend (3/4 June) as the current points' leader in the Porsche Michelin Supercup.Westbrook will return to the Team Irwin with Red Line Racing squad after missing four Carrera Cup races while enjoying a stunning run of results in the international Supercup, which supports most of the European Grands Prix.Westbrook, the 2004 Carrera Cup champion, has not raced in the Carrera Cup GB since early April, when he won both opening races at Brands Hatch. Instead, his focus has been the Supercup where he has scored five podium finishes in five rounds, including two victories.Westbrook will return to battle with Carrera Cup title contenders including Tim Harvey and Damien Faulkner as well as the Vertu-backed VIP car raced by Porsche ace Sascha Maassen for the weekend."It's brilliant that Porsche Cars GB has got Sascha over to race the VIP car. It’s a real coup for the Carrera Cup GB and it will be great for me to go up against him," says WestbrookThe German ace will race at Thruxton during a break from his American Le Mans Series campaign in the stunning Porsche RS Spyder. But Maassen has never even seen the high-speed Thruxton circuit before. "It will be interesting to see how he gets to grips with the circuit," says Westbrook, who only raced at the Hampshire track for the first time in 2003. "The first time you see Thruxton in a racing car it takes your breath away," says Westbrook. "Nothing prepares you for it! But Sascha is a class racer and I'm sure he'll very quickly be on the pace."
