Westbrook ready for Silverstone Supercup
Richard Westbrook is preparing for one of the biggest weekends of his racing career as he leads the Porsche Michelin Supercup into his home race at Silverstone during the British Grand Prix weekend (9-11 June).Westbrook is having a fabulous season driving for Racing Team Morelatto in a 997-model 911GT3 Cup car and has finished on the podium in all five races to date, including taking two wins."Silverstone is the one I want to win," says Westbrook. "I'll have a lot of home support and it will be a very big race. If we can create a good platform during free practice on Friday, we'll be looking good."In the most recent round at Monte Carlo, Westbrook battled home third after fighting ahead of Alex Zampedri. "I picked out where he was braking earlier than me and got alongside. He turned in and just bounced off me. I then caught David Saelens for second, but there were only two laps to go and I didn't want to take a big risk."Saelens is Westbrook's big rival for the Supercup title right now, and lies just six points behind the British racer. "It looks like being a battle between the two of us as we're quite a long way ahead of the rest," says Westbrook. "I didn't think it would pan out like this so early in the season."Now comes Westbrook's home race at Silverstone where he will race in front of a home crowd of around 100,000 fans. While a British win in the Grand Prix is perhaps a long shot at the moment, Westbrook is certainly aiming to give the home fans plenty to cheer about on the biggest day of the year in British motor sport.
