Four Carrera Cup racers
for Supercup at SilverstoneFour drivers from the Porsche Carrera Cup GB will step up to the Porsche Michelin Supercup to race at the British Grand Prix meeting at Silverstone (10/11 June).Richard Williams and Mike Richards will race for IN2RACING, while Danny Watts and Jason Young will compete for Red Line Racing in the British round of the international series. The opportunity to join the Supercup grid for this race has been organised by Porsche Cars GB.All four drivers will be making their Supercup debut in the 997-model 911GT3 Cup cars they are currently racing in the Carrera Cup GB and will line up in front of a crowd of 100,000 British fans on Sunday morning.“It’s a toe in the water exercise to see what we’re up against next year,” says Williams, who is planning to step up to the Supercup in 2007. “It’s a great opportunity for us to showcase the Carrera Cup GB.” It will be his first experience of racing on the Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone and he will celebrate his birthday on Sunday.Richards has raced on the GP circuit before but will also make his debut at the British Grand Prix meeting. “I’m looking forward to the challenge,” he says. Meanwhile, IN2RACING team boss Alec Dudfield sees the weekend as a chance for the team to perform in front of a massive audience. “We’re delighted to get an entry,” he says. “But it will be a big challenge for all of us. It’s a great opportunity.”Young and Watts will line up for Red Line Racing, with Watts returning to the car that he took to a brace of Carrera Cup wins at Oulton Park in May. “There’s not really any pressure on me,” says Young. “But I’ll just try and pick off one or two of the Supercup regulars. I’m looking forward to it!”After the Supercup race at Silverstone, the teams and drivers have a five-week break before the Carrera Cup GB resumes at Croft over the weekend of 15/16 July.
