The Spedeworth Stock Cars provide a great day’s racing action at Bovingdon when the Hertfordshire Championship title was settled in fine style.
The defending champion Steve O’ Dell #71 looked promising with a win in the Stock Car’s heat, but was not able to repeat the performance in the big race of the day.
As the green flag fell the bumpers went in with abandon and cars were quickly shoved off their racing line and in many cases completely out of the race. Lady driver Vicki Brand #106 was the early leader, followed by a very hard charging Dave Matthews #503. As the pair jockeyed for position O’ Dell moved rapidly into third position and as he turned on the power many in the crowd thought he was on track to retain his title.
However, Aaron Morris #191 had other ideas and was rapidly moving through the pack to take the lead with just 5 laps left to run. From then on in Morris kept his foot firmly to the metal to overhaul O’ Dell and claim the top spot. O’ Dell never gave up but as the two drivers wove their way through the back markers it was Morris who judged his overtaking better, while O’ Dell got hooked up with the slower traffic.
Morris steered his car under the chequered flag to claim the Hertfordshire Championship title ahead of the defeated ex champion O’ Dell and Dave Matthews who did well to hold onto third place.
There will be more racing action at Bovingdon on June 18th when the 2.0 Hot Rods, Lightning Rods, Bangers and stock karts take to the track.
