Petrolheads Annual Streetcar Gathering

On Sunday 30th July the 5th annual Ten Of The Best event returns to Elvington Airfield near York to find the UK’s top road-legal performance car. Ten teams of ten cars, together with 25 other invited competitors, will fight for top honours in a one day event that captured the imagination of more than 5,000 spectators last year. The event is organised by Straightliners and Trackday Plus and supported by Redline Magazine.

Every competitor in each of three classes – front wheel drive, rear wheel drive and four wheel drive - will be challenged to complete three high speed disciplines during the day. First up is a quarter mile drag race where the winners progress through knock out stages, then a 1 ¼ mile sprint to post a best overall terminal speed at the timing beam and finally, a timed ½ mile handling course. The most highly acclaimed award goes to the driver with the highest points total over all three events, although other awards are made to the best driver in each class for each event.

Ten Of The Best Event Organiser Trevor Duckworth explains this years’ challenge;-

" This single day represents a huge and growing culture of enthusiasts for under-the-bonnet, over-the-top streetcar showmanship. The number of tuning shops and availability of specialist parts – for both engine performance and sound systems – means it is bigger than ever and the Ten Of The Best event tunes into this passion ".

Gates will open at 8.00am for competitors on Sunday 30th July. Spectators are welcome at 9.30am, to wander around an open paddock, before the challenge starts at 10.00am. Don’t forget your camera !

Trevor continues;

" This is a premier day out for petrolheads. Spectators can expect to see the best road-legal performance cars exceeding 200mph and pushing out more than 1,000bhp; handling such a car takes nerve and great driving skill. All manner of highly tuned beautifully finished streetcars will be taking part and even the car park will be teeming with special motors on display ".

Entry is £20.00 on the gate for adults and accompanied children under 15 get in free.
