Richard Westbrook finished second in round six of the Porsche Michelin Supercup race at the British Grand Prix meeting at Silverstone today (Sunday 11 June). The result gave 100,000 British fans plenty to cheer about in the build up to the British Grand Prix and means that Westbrook has extended his championship lead in the Porsche Supercup.Westbrook was racing his Racing Team Morelatto Porsche 911GT3 Cup in his home race and battled hard to finish second to Uwe Alzen, having withstood considerable pressure from Richard Leitz, Christian Menzel and Patrick Huisman. However, Westbrook was equal to the challenge and, with his major title rival David Saelens down in seventh, has extended his championship lead to 14 points."My start wasn’t good, and the first four laps were extremely tough for me," said Westbrook after the race. "I was the only one at the front who had used both sets of tyres during qualifying. I came under extreme pressure but I was able to defend my position."We are now at the halfway point in the series and I'm still in the lead – that’s brilliant," said Westbrook. "There are two races at Indianapolis next, so I'll again be pushing very hard and that could be the most important weekend of the season."The two races supporting the US Grand Prix at Indianapolis will run over the weekend of 1/2 July
