D1 GP drifts into Silverstone

Drifting is one of the fastest growing and most spectacular new forms of motorsport and on 17 & 18 June  the  ‘complex’  section  of  Silverstone’s  Grand  prix  circuit  –  taking  in  the  famous  Priory, Brooklands and Luffield corners – will turn into a high speed play ground for some of the most skilful and adrenaline filled drivers in the world. For the spectator D1 GP is an exciting and thrilling viewing experience with door-to-door competition, near misses, fast action, unbelievable angles of drift and plenty of tyre smoke. Born in Japan, D1 GP, or drifting, sees drivers control their specially prepared cars in dramatic high- speed slides through a fixed course. Though speeds top 100mph, points are awarded for style rather than  for  the  speed  with which they complete the course.

As its name suggests, D1 Grand Prix is without  doubt  the  ultimate  drifting  series  in  the  world  playing  to  packed  houses  in  Japan  and  the USA. In  2005  Silverstone staged an amazing D1 Grand Prix Exhibition starring many of the world's top professional drifters. It was a roaring success and circuit bosses are now giving fans the chance to see competitive UK drifting at its best with the D1 National Championship on Saturday  (17 June), followed by the world's top professional drifters in the D1 Grand Prix on Sunday (18 June).

Tickets  for  both  days  are  now  on  sale  at  www.silverstone.co.uk  and,  if  booked  in  advance,  are available  from  £20  for  Sunday  (£30  on  the  day),  £20  for  Saturday,  while  Weekend  Tickets,  for Saturday  and  Sunday,  are  also  available  for  as  little  as  £30  in  advance  (£40  if  purchased  on  the Saturday). Richard  Phillips,  Managing  Director  of  Silverstone  Circuits  Limited,  commented:  “D1  GP  is  totally different  to  any  other  event  we  hold  here  at  Silverstone,  generally  appealing  to  a  much  younger audience.  It  really  is  quite  spectacular  to  see  these  drivers  and  cars  in  action.  The  Championship came  to  Silverstone  for  the  first  time  last  year,  was  incredibly  popular,  and  we’re  delighted  to  be hosting rounds of both the UK and World championship on 17 & 18 June. This is a fantastic event for the whole family.”
