WHO
On 29 June 100 women will begin a three days ‘eliminations camp’ to decide which are the fastest 12 to join the 4 who have already earned their place for the 2006 Formula Woman Championship. The championship will take place over July, August and September at Pembrey, Mallory Park, Brands Hatch and Snetterton.Among this year’s competitors are a granny, a dancer, a headteacher and a pilot but all of these women are living proof that modern women are more adventurous and independent than ever before and with Formula Woman they now have the opportunity to prove it.
WHY
In its fourth year the Formula Woman Championship is well on its way to proving that the female equivalent of Formula 1 is here to stay. And it’s getting bigger and better. During the last two competitions a staggering 15,000 women have applied to be Formula Woman drivers showing that women across the nation are fascinated with motor sport and have a ‘need for speed’.As David Coulthard said in May "I'm a great believer that ladies have an equal opportunity to race as men” while Jenson Button caused such a furore over his comments to FHM Magazine that “a girl with big boobs would never be comfortable in the car” that he issued a grovelling apology. And no wonder when, after 100 years of male domination in motor sport, women are now showing the men that they can equal them. For men who still think they are better and faster drivers than women…they need to think again….they need to know about Formula Woman.The 100 women will face fitness, racing and personality tests (all of which score points, including the press they personally generate) to ensure that the final 16 are equipped with everything they need to make a first-class racing driver. Over the 3 days they’ll be driving Honda Civic Type Rs and Caterhams.
