IMS Radio Network to offer live local coverage
Speed Channel will provide complete coverage of the United States Grand Prix Formula One race, qualifying and practice sessions June 30-July 2 from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Live Race Day coverage from the 13-turn, 2.605-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course begins on Speed with pre-race coverage at 12:30 p.m. (ET) Sunday, July 2. The seventh running of the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis gets underway at 1 p.m.
Four hours of live practice coverage on Speed will air from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, June 30. Speed will telecast Saturday’s practice session live from 10-11 a.m. July 1 and then televise qualifying live from 1-2:30 p.m.
Speed Channel’s coverage team for the United States Grand Prix is Bob Varsha, play-by-play; David Hobbs and Steve Matchett, analysis and color commentary; and Peter Windsor, pit reporter. Sam Posey, a former Formula One and Indianapolis 500 competitor, has joined Speed
Channel’s USGP broadcast team to provide feature commentary.
United States Grand Prix spectators and Indianapolis-area residents also can listen to the race live on local radio station WIBC-AM 1070, with coverage provided by the IMS Radio Network from 12:30-3 p.m. July 2. The IMS Radio Network’s USGP coverage team is Bob Jenkins, host; Donald Davidson, historian; and Jerry Baker, Chris Denari, Kevin Lee and Tom Michaels, turn reporters.
Speed is providing USGP fans with a special USGP pre-race show at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 1. Speed’s on-air F1 broadcasters will have the rare opportunity to conduct one-on-one interviews with Formula One drivers and play host to fan question-and-answer sessions. The show will be taped during the Pit Walkabout on Thursday, June 29 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Speed also will broadcast the USGP edition of its regular show “Inside Grand Prix,” which looks behind the scenes of Formula One, at 3 p.m. June 30. The show will be replayed at 2:30 p.m. July 1 and 4:30 a.m. July 2.
Scott Speed, the first American race driver in Formula One since 1993, will appear on “Wind Tunnel” with host Dave Despain on Sunday, June 25. The show starts at 9 p.m. on Speed Channel. Scott Speed, who drives for Scuderia Toro Rosso, will accept fan phone calls and e-mails during his appearance.
ESPN2 will televise the Liberty Challenge Indy Pro Series™ race, which will take place at 2:40 p.m. July 1 at the United States Grand Prix, on taped-delayed basis at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6.
