In case you are jaded by F1 and F1 egos - mega budgets etc - spare a thought for a friend of Racecar - David Cottrell - who actually goes racing at the weekend in a car he built. No F1 motorhomes here and sponsors to entertain, PR flunkeys etc - David usually stays in a tent and ends up fixing his car at night with a few tins of beer for company.
Here's his report from the Cadwell round of the Formula Vee championship run by the 750 Motor Club this weekend.
He was using the meeting to shake down the front suspension mods he has just completed on his Formula Vee car - probably a lot more fun than watching the Canadian Gp whilst "driving a sofa"...
1 - Went well in practice Saturday morning till no oil pressure!!
2 - Eventually traced problem to blown oil-pump.
3 - Changed pump, but missed the Quali. Saturday race.
4 - Sunday race was a hoot, diced with 4 or 5 other cars all the way.
5 - Finished 20th in the heat on Sunday.
6 - Did not quite make the final - was first reserve and nobody dropped-out - bugger :(
Still handling is far more predictable, lap times were 3s quicker than last time at Cadwell so all going in the right direction
(Pic is an old one of David at Cadwell in 2004)
Much like receiving an Oscar - no race report would be complete without thanking people who helped out at the weekend....
David would like to thank Alan at AHS for supplying the oil pump - his web site can be found at www.formulavee.co.uk
