At the Portuguese round of the Spanish Formula 3 Championship taking place this weekend at the circuit of Estoril Miguel Molina confirmed his ascending form. After Saturday’s second and third position for Racing Engineering’s Nicolas Prost and Miguel Molina, Miguel finished race two on the podium as well.
The reversed grid of Sunday’s race saw Nicolas Prost stating from 5th and Miguel Molina from 4th position. Both had a good start and Miguel was already in 3rd position after a few laps. Nicolas wasn’t as lucky as his teammate when Risatti pushed him off the track, Nevertheless the French Racing Engineering driver was able to continue, although the end of the field. Nicolas pushed hard throughout the entire race and was able to finish in 9th position. Miguel on the other hand started an attack on the leader of the race, but was overtaken by Barba and fell back into 4th position. Making up another position Miguel finished in 3rd position.
Sergio Jimenez started the race with the objective to record the fastest lap time. Starting from the back of the field after being pushed off the track in Saturday’s race, Sergio additionally faced a stop&go penalty. Nevertheless, Racing Engineering’s Brazilian driver finished in a solid 10th position. Marcos Martinez decided to entirely change the set up of his car for Sunday’s race and wasn’t yet aware of how his Toyota Dallara would react. His race found a sudden end when he went off the track and hit a wall. Nicolas Prost: “Risatti pushed me, but I think I have had the best race of my life. I was constantly attacking. I am very happy although I wasn’t able to obtain a good result, but we are definitely on the right way.”
Sergio Jimenez: “The penalization I received was a bit hard. I had a stop&go while other drivers were not punished as hard for similar incidents. But it time to look ahead now.” Marcos Martinez: ”I changed the entire set up of the car for today. I am happy with these changes, but I wasn’t able to avoid a spin at the beginning of the race not being used the reactions of the car. Later I hit the wall and that’s where my race finished.”
Miguel Molina: “We had a good day with another podium and more points for the championship. The car, although I think we could still improve some small details, is pretty much the way I want it. This was a good weekend.”
Alfonso de Orleáns-Borbón: We weren’t able to obtain a victory, but at least three podiums. I would like to congratulate Miguel who had a fantastic weekend. Nicolas suffered from another car hitting him and Sergio from a penalization, but they both have the chances to win this championship. What happened to Marcos was a pity, but I am confident that we are on the right way with the car and this will be noticed from the next races on. The entire team has made a magnificent job!”
