Darren Law Mid-Ohio race report

Law and Donohue Secure 8th Place Finish for Brumos Porsche Fabcar at Rolex Series Mid-Ohio EMCO Gears Classic

Brumos Porsche driver Darren Law of Phoenix and teammate David Donohue survived an early weekend rain storm that damaged team tents and awnings up and down pit lane, and went on to finish a strong 8th place in the Rolex Sports Car Series Presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve Mid-Ohio EMCO Gears Classic held on Saturday afternoon. The intense storm, which blew through the paddock and pit lane areas just at the close of testing on Thursday at the picturesque Mid-Ohio circuit, did surprisingly heavy damage to several team’s equipment although there were no serious injuries and the Brumos squad emerged relatively unscathed.Law drove in the testing day on Thursday, working on set up for the newly paved Mid-Ohio circuit.  Law, who had notched a third place finish with the ALMS series in May, was already comfortable with the new surface.QualifyingLaw was tapped for qualifying for the Mid-Ohio event and placed the car 13th on the grid with a lap of 1:22.207.  Post scrutiny found the first three cars on the grid following qualifying, the #76 Ford Riley, the #01 Lexus Riley and the #12 Pontiac Riley all to have issues with compliance and were moved to the back of the field.  Law’s #58 Red Bull Brumos Porsche Fabcar was elevated to a 10th place starting position. Race ActionThe start of the Mid-Ohio EMCO Gears Classic was held amidst clear and dry conditions with the traditional large crowd gathered throughout the beautifully maintained spectator areas.  Law’s stint was uneventful as he got down to the task of turning quick and consistent laps.  Law turned the Red Bull machine over to David Donohue on lap 40 during a full course caution period stop for fuel and tires.Donohue continued the strong pace that Law had set, and was able to avoid the problems that brought out several late race yellows.  Donohue brought the #58 Brumos to the checkered flag on lap 99 with an 8th place finish.Darren Law QuoteI was pretty happy with an 8th place.  We are still about a second or so off the lead cars, which is better than last year but still not quite where we should be.  David drove great and we’ll head to Daytona hoping to do even better.Upcoming EventsNext up on Darren’s schedule is the Brumos 250 at Daytona.  Practice, qualifying and race will all be held this Thursday, June 29.  The all-in-one-day event will be shown live on SPEED starting at 7 PM EST.  Be sure to surf to grand-am.com for information on the EMCO Gears Classic or to get tickets to the upcoming Brumos 250 at Daytona.
