Initial reaction

The 2006 DTM Championship touches down in the UK this week, as Germany’s premier tin-top racing series heads for the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent. And Motors TV will be there, showing all the action live. The coverage starts with qualifying on Saturday morning and then takes in the race on Sunday afternoon. Tom Kristensen arrives with Audi, fresh from its historic diesel-powered win at Le Mans and leading the DTM tables. Damon Hill recently drove a Mercedes DTM car round the Kent circuit and reckons that the action should be nothing short of spectacular.

Lime with that?

For many endurance drivers, they barely had time to catch their breath between the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the fourth round of the American Le Mans Series at Lime Rock in New England. In fact, some of the cars taking part in France were immediately air-freighted to the USA for this race. The fourth round will mark the end of an era, as the last race for the ultra-successful Audi R8, before it is replaced by the le Mans-winning diesel-powered R10. Audi is hoping to take the model’s 50th race win on its swansong this weekend. Motors TV will be showing the full race, delayed as live, with all the thrills and spills.

A life in a day

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the most famous endurance, if not outright, motor race in the world. However, taking place over the same weekend this year, the 24 Hours of Nürburgring saw almost 220 cars take the start of another mighty racing marathon. The venue was the infamous and awe-inspiring Nordschleife circuit, all 16 miles of it. Names such as Zakspeed, Maserati and Kelleners motorsport set out, with the winners racking up an impressive 151 laps of the German circuit to come home with a six minute lead. Motors TV shows the highlights of this incredible race in the German countryside.

Out on the pull

It may not have the highest speeds or car to car action but for anyone who loves outright power and grunt, then tractor pulling is a must-see. The idea is simple – a hugely power tractor has to pull an increasing weight over a set distance. Whichever pulls it the farthest, wins. Different classes see different types and numbers of engines, including tractors with several nitro-powered drag racing engines, with thousands of horsepower and even gas turbines. Motors TV shows highlights of the second day of the French event from Bernay and the spectacle has to be seen to be believed.

Busch life…

The 2006 NASCAR Busch Series just keep on rolling and the 19th round of the mammoth series takes the drivers and teams north to the Windy City, Chicago and the Chicagoland Speedway. The circuit is a 1.5 mile tri-oval and construction began in 1999, following a difficult gestation period, while local industry tried to find the right set of circumstances for a raceway in the country’s third largest car market. Jimmie Johnson took the first Busch series race win there in 2001 and in July, fans and viewers will be keen to see who adds Chicagoland to their CV. Motors TV will be showing the entire race live, with unparalleled spectacle and action.

Le Mans revisited

This year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans was a true classic; the first time the race was won by a diesel-powered car and the first for Motors TV, broadcasting the entire race and build-up live, a monumental feat. The channel has received a huge amount of critical acclaim and now shows highlights of this year’s race, run under blazing sunshine on the most famous motor racing circuit in the world, the Circuit des 24 Heures in La Sarthe.
