Superstox pilot Mark Smith 416 had a memorable day’s racing at Bovingdon Raceway on July 9th when the took the chequered flag in both heats and the final, grabbing all the day’s silverware and further cementing his lead in the Superstox Land Rover Safari Challenge.
Heat 1 saw Smith move rapidly through the pack to claim the pole position and hold onto it to take a convincing first win of the day.
It was the same story in heat 2 when a storming Smith overhauled a grid full of start drivers to claim his second trophy of the day.
As the Superstox lined up for the final, all eyes were on Smith as the crowd waited to see if the could do the incredibly difficult task of winning three out of three at the Herts circuit.
With the race run over 30 laps Smith might have held back early on and awaiting his chances as the race progressed. Instead he began powering through the pack in the early stages and was in 4th place before the half way mark.
Smith moved rapidly into second and then made a clean pass around the leader James Griggs 258 at the 6-lap mark. From that point on he never put a wheel wrong and tore under the chequered flag, for the third time in as many races, ahead of Griggs and third placeman Steve Jackson, 376.
There will be more racing action at Bovingdon on July 23rd when the historic Saloon Stock Cars, Ministox, Lightning Rods and Bangers take to the track.
