Motors TV UK Weekly Highlights

22-30 July 2006 - Channel 413 on Sky Digital and channel 173 on NTL

Road racing and street partying

After its celebrated visit to the UK at Brands Hatch, the DTM championship returns to its homeland for the fifth round, at the Norisring, a street circuit in the heart of the German city of Nurnberg. A real party atmosphere descends for the race, with fans building their own stands to watch from. In fact, many feel the Norisring is matched only by the Monaco Grand Prix, in terms of the fan’s appreciation of the action. Motors TV will of course be showing qualifying live on Saturday while the full race will also be shown live, on Sunday afternoon.

On the Oregon trail

The sixth round of the American Le Mans Series hits Portland in Oregon this week, the second race in as many weekends for the drivers, after their inaugural visit to Salt Lake City in Utah. The 2005 race saw all four classes setting new lap records and with the Audi R10 in P1 and the Porsche Spyders in P2, expect that tradition to continue. Once again, Motors TV will have the full 2¾ race delayed, as live, with all the action as it unfolded on the Portland circuit.

Mates in V8s

Round six of the 2006 Australian V8 Supercar series heads for the Queensland Raceway and the traditional three races over the weekend. Holden is currently trailing Ford for manufacturer wins, with two to three respectively. However, it was Craig Lowndes who made the headlines, a win in the last of the previous round’s three races, to consolidate second in the title race. He heads for Queensland just eight points behind series leader Garth Tander and five ahead of Rick Kelly, so the action is sure to be fierce. Motors TV has delayed coverage of all three races, one on Saturday and two on Sunday.

Troys will be boys

The seventh round of the World SuperBike Championship sees the riders and teams head for the Czech Republic and the Brno circuit. Australian Troy Bayliss dominates the series so far, with eight wins this season and a 94 point lead at the championship mid-point. Two falls at the previous round at Misano dropped rival Troy Corser from second to fourth and Noriyuki Haga steps up to second, followed by James Toseland. As usual, Motors TV is showing highlights of the SuperBike category, as well as the SuperSport class. This is followed by the SuperBike TV magazine program, looking behind the scenes at the championship.

A touch of the hard stuff

The British Touring Car Championship returns to what many regard as its spiritual home this week; Donington in the Midlands. The circuit has been the scene of some of the most frantic BTCC action in the past, including the scene of Matt Neal’s historic privateer outright win, netting him a cheque for £250,000. Donington combines fast sections requiring commitment from the drivers as well as slower ones, where overtaking is rife. Motors TV will be showing all three BTCC races lives, as well as the support races.

Sugo wrestling

The Japanese Super GT series is four rounds old and the next takes the teams to the Sugo circuit. Heading the GT500 class are Daisuke Ito and Ralph Firman in their Honda NSX, after a well-deserved win at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia, where both their cool suits failed to work in the sweltering heat. The pairing also set the second fastest time at the official test at Sugo earlier in the year, so should be optimistic for another win. Motors TV has the race live for all the thrills of this exceptional series.
