Goodswen wins v8 Stockcars Southerns

Spedeworth South (www.spedeworth.net) brought the ground-shaking V8 Stock Cars to Bovingdon Raceway on August 7th to contest the Southern Championship.

As the V8-powered cars lined up for the feature race all eyes were on Peter Scott #98, who had lived up to his reputation as the ‘Flying Scott’ by winning both previous heats.

Early leader Simon Turner #324 soon had Scott in his rear view mirror as the veteran driver began to rapidly weave his way through the pack. Turner was overhauled by Colin Goodswen #72 as Scott continued to power his way through the slower machines.

Scott’s progress was checked, however, when he was spun out by Bill Chance #117 on the pit turn. Goodswen continued to pull into the distance leaving the highly fancied Scott to have to work his way from the back of the pack again to be in with a chance of taking the title.

Scott never lifted the pedal from the metal as he attempted to make up lost ground but he was unable to get back on terms with the very hard charging Goodswen who took the chequered flag and the 2006 Southern Championship ahead of Chance in second and Daryl Harris #32 in third.

The Superstox were also in action, contesting their Hertfordshire Championship. The title went to Steven Sutch #40, who drove and exemplary race to lift the trophy.

More action is on the cards on September 3rd when the fender-bending National Bangers return to Bovingdon for the Dave Beauchamp Memorial Meeting.
