Banks to join Heritage GT field

Warwick Banks is the latest star name to commit to racing in the Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge and the former Ken Tyrrell driver will make his debut at Snetterton this weekend (12/13 August).Banks, the 1964 European Touring Car champion, has been tempted to return to racing a Mini Cooper S alongside Nathalie Boyd. "I last raced a Mini three years ago at Goodwood, but I've probably done about 10,000 racing miles in Minis over the years," says Banks.Banks raced Minis and F3 single-seaters for Ken Tyrrell's team and finished second in the 1965 British Touring Car Championship. He was also a team mate to Jackie Stewart in Tyrrell's F3 team in 1964.After a long break from racing, he returned to competition in 1988 and has raced ever since, notably in MGBs. This year, Banks is racing a Cooper Bristol, and is now relishing the chance to get back behind the wheel of a Mini Cooper. In period, he even raced a Mini at Sebring alongside Paddy Hopkirk.Although the arrangement is currently just for the Snetterton weekend, Banks is keen to do more Heritage GT races. "I'd love to do some more if I'm offered the opportunity," says Banks ahead of his debut alongside Boyd at Snetterton.
