Conway Leads all-British front row for Round 14
In varying track conditions Britain’s Mike Conway in his Raikkonen Robertson Racing Dallara Mercedes set the quickest time with a 1:42.014 lap in today’s second qualifying session to take pole position for tomorrow’s second race, Round 14 of the 2006 Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International series.
Bruno Senna, who earlier today took pole position for tomorrow’s first race (Round 13), could only manage 4th slot for the second race as yellow flags and tyre wear started to control the times and set grid positions during a difficult qualifying session on the full 3.2mile Silverstone GP circuit.
Second position for Race 14 was claimed by Oliver Jarvis (GBR) in his Carlin Motorsport Dallara Mugen-Honda with third slot taken by his team mate Christian Bakkerud (DEN) ahead of Conway’s team mates Senna and Stephen Jelley.
In his bid to become this year’s British F3 Champion, Conway, who currently leads the series with a demanding 47 point lead, was quick to add “I would have liked pole for both but I’m pleased with second and pole for tomorrows two races”. Conway continued; “it was tricky with so many yellow flags and changing conditions in that second session affecting tyre wear, so pole in these conditions is that much more pleasing”
In the National Class pole position for Race 14 went to Rodolfo Gonzalez (VEN) in his T-Sport Dallara Mugen-Honda closely followed home by Fluid Motorsport’s Cristiano Morgado (RSA) and invited driver Mario Moraes (BRA) in his Carlin Motorsport Dallara Mugen-Honda.
