Davies hopes for some Mewla magic!
Kevin Davies faces crunch time in the Fiesta SportingTrophy title race next weekend, as only three more rounds of the super competitive one make rally championship are left this year. The 21 year old from Llanfihangel-ar-Arth near Llandysul is now third in the overall points standings after a very consistent run of form early in the year that gave him the lead of the series for two rounds. A combination of a retirement on the Jim Clark Rally and a disappointing 8th place finish on the Swansea Bay Clubmans Rally have blighted Davies' championship aspirations slightly, but with three more chances to score points, anything is possible for the KJ's Eden Tours, David Harries and Co. and MM Ford of Aberystwyth backed youngster. The MSA British Rally Elite Academy ace recently benefited from pace note training from World Rally Champions Phil Mills and Robert Reid ahead of the Mewla National Rally on August 27th. The all tarmac rally will be a stern test of Kevin and co-driver Emyr Jones ability to make good pace notes on the popular and highly challenging roads native to the Epynt Military Ranges near Brecon.High on the Epynt mountain ranges, the very high speed roads can easily catch out the unwary, and after recently contesting the Harry Flatters Rally at the venue, Kevin is keen to put the knowledge he now has of the venue to good use next Sunday in the Geoff Jones Motorsport run Ford Fiesta ST150.X-Cite Motorsport Supplies and www.rallycarsales.net backed Davies was confident ahead of the Builth Wells Showground based event:'Epynt offers plenty of challenges as a driver, but the consistently high speeds can often lead to small mistakes that can cost you very dearly' said Kevin. 'Having a good pace note making system is vital, and I feel I have really benefited from the advice available from two former WRC champions. I learnt a lot from their experience, and I hope that can help me next weekend as we prepare for the Mewla Rally. Competition as always is going to be fierce, and particularly from the likes of Chris Moore who have extensive knowledge of the roads there. My experience of tarmac rallying is quite limited, but the clock is ticking for the championship battle now, so we know that we'll have to pick up the pace again this weekend. I'm really looking forward to the event I must admit, as I think it will turn out to be a very close battle between the leading contenders.'
