Father and Son Rivalry Set to Sizzle at Queensland Raceway
NSW driver Colin Dunn will unwrap a different Father's Day present on Sunday when his son Ben will hand back the keys of the Red Head Racing Ford BF Falcon XR8 at Queensland Raceway.
Dunn senior stepped out of the Ute early in the season, but will return for Round 6 of the Yokohama V8 Ute series, while son Ben will pull on the team's second entry, the Four Seasons Condom Ute.
James and Peter Brock made a one off V8 Ute appearance in 2003, however this is the first time a father and son combo have tackled a championship round.
"There is enough close competition within the pack already without throwing some father and son rivalry into the mix" said Colin "I just hope my elderly wisdom will prevail over Ben's young aggression, what ever the result, in the end it's all good fun."
To add to the enjoyment and off track antics for this round, fans can revel in the return of multi-award winning country artist, Adam Brand who will re join the series in the #5 BVC Racing Ute after recently completing his busy overseas recording schedule.
The singing star is celebrating the release of his latest album "What a life", whilst other celebrations continue for Round Four winner and recently announced Cleo Bachelor of the Year finalist Jack "The Hustler" Elsegood.
"Unlike other categories in the motorsport industry, the Utes boast an interesting pack of personalities, yet it can't be forgotten that these personalities combine for an unprecedented, first class and competitive racing experience" said singing star Brand.
Adding an element of unknown potential to the field are new drivers to the V8 Ute Racing Series Dean "Howzat" Lillie and Matt "Muttley" Moorehead.
Keep an eye out for these two as each displayed promising talent during their short stints in the category a few years back. Lillie will be driving the LP GAS 1 Holden SS Commodore whilst Moorehead of Hi Tech Motorsport masters the Ford BF Falcon XR8.
The locals are out in force with Darren Palmer, Brendon Tucker and Ryal Harris all returning to the series after a Phillip Island absence.
Guaranteed to put on a good show is rising talent and Gold Coast resident Matt Kingsley, who put in a scorching effort at Round Five Phillip Island finishing in the top ten of all three races.
"I have been plagued with bad luck all series, forced out of most races due to intermittent engine issues, but I am back and after testing 2 seconds under the track record, I reckon I have a good chance to make another big impact in this Round's results" said Action Tyres and More Kingsley.
Another local drawing attention is the Sunshine Coast based, Heart Foundation Ambassador Matthew O'Grady. O'Grady's unsponsored #18 Ute picked up the Sonax Best Presented Award at Round Four Phillip Island and is currently sitting at a menacing 11th position in the overall series leader board.
Round Six begins with practice on Friday September 1, followed by qualifying on Saturday September 2 with all the action culminating on Sunday September 3 in a Father's Day three race spectacular.
