Dodd desires a stroll in the Park

Poole driver Marcus Dodd is gearing up for a titanic end of season finale in the MSA National Gravel Rally Championship.  The HPM Motorsport and Flitewise.com backed Hyundai Accent WRC4 pilot is desperate to claim the title after several wins before, and with just two rounds of the championship remaining, the pressure is firmly on to get the pedal to the metal on September 9th.Dodd and his Hove based co-driver Andrew Bargery will be taking their silver and black Hyundai north of the border to Newton Stewart.  The forests of South Galloway will play host to best of the National Championship competitors, along with the Scottish National Rally Championship regulars as well.  The Park Systems Rally leaderboard is often decided by tyres.  Selection may be easy, but puncture resistance is always tested to the full on the often rock strewn roads in the Scottish forests.Marcus heads to the event in good form.  The Pirelli Tyres and Sunseeker Powerboats backed Accent WRC4 took a fine victory on the recent Swansea Bay National Rally.  Dodd has been the class of the MSA National field this year, and Swansea was no exception.  The HPM Motorsport car kept out of trouble to score a hard fought victory, with Marcus just edging out the challenge of Norwegian newcomer Andreas Mikkelsen.  The Scandinavian teenager was just three seconds behind Dodd at the rally finish, but the all important maximum championship points were of more interest to Marcus.Heading to Scotland, the battle looks to be equally intense.  Mikkelsen is likely to feature again, although the youngster is not registered for the MSA National Gravel Rally Championship.  Instead regular rivals Roger Duckworth, Craig Middleton and Barry Johnson look set to provide the stiff opposition when it comes to the battle for points.  Dropped scores and big points will ultimately decide the destination of the trophies this year, and Marcus is determined to end the season with a flourish of consecutive victories if he can.  It may sound a tall order, but the Hyundai driver has shown great pace all season long, and will be one of the favourites for success on the final two rounds.'The season is really starting to hot up now' said Dodd ahead of the event.  'Championship wise we are under a bit of pressure to perform, as we'll need to win both of the last two rounds to take the title for certain.  Roger has been very steady all season, and has done an excellent job of taking points.  Craig has also gone well this season and is in a good position too.  For us, it is a case of doing the same things we have done all year.  On the first event of the year we were well up on the rest before we hit problems, and we also lost out on a certain win on the Severn Valley Rally for the same reasons.  Fortunately the reliability of the car has been extremely strong recently, as our paddle shift gearbox developments have made the car so much easier to drive on the limit.  The Park Systems Rally will almost certainly be decided by tyres, so I'm sure that the excellent support we receive from Pirelli Tyres will be invaluable on the event.  The battle is on now, so I'm really looking forward to the end of the season'.Dodd will be joined in Scotland by his father, Harry Dodd, in the sister Hyundai Accent WRC.  Dorset Police Rally Team will also be sending up their driver Shaun Cronin for the event in his HPM Motorsport run Subaru Impreza N8, supported by Petards and Road Angel.  Marcus will warm up for the event by contesting a round of the BTRDA National Rally Championship, The Woodpecker Stages Rally, on September 2nd.  Dodd will be joined on the rally by regular Hyundai Accent WRC pilot Peter Egerton and co-driver Ryland James in a two car HPM Motorsport team for the Ludlow based rally.
