A unique new event for petrol heads will take place this weekend (Sunday 10th September 2006) at Crail Raceway, in a bid to find the country’s current champions of the modified car scene. For the first time the ‘Ultimate Car Club & Forum Challenge’, will give members of clubs and car forum groups the chance to go head to head at the same event.
The challenge will take place on the on the ¼ mile drag strip at Crail Raceway - a former WWII air base in Fife – home to Scotland’s drag strip and the regular ‘Run What You Brung’ Thrash events.
Organiser, William Robertson, hopes to attract car enthusiasts from across the country. “The idea is to gather all cubs and forums together at one event to provide a competitive challenge for all types of enthusiasts, from the Subaru Owners Club to MINI and Hotrod clubs.”
As far as we know, the online forums, which have a huge following, have not had a chance to battle it out against clubs before. This is the ideal arena to find the country’s cream of the crop, while hopefully at the same time, strengthening the club/forum scene by attracting new membership.”
The US television network, G4 TV, which is coming to Europe to stage its automotive show “Street Fury”, will be featuring the best of the best from the event when it visits the UK later in September. "Street Fury" takes on the adrenaline-drenched world of import car racing and car modification. Host Carlton "Big C" Lewis gives American viewers the real deal on the rides, shows, and clubs that make the import car lifestyle so irresistible.
On the day there will be classes for the best - Front, Rear, and 4 Wheel Drive cars, as well as for Retro, Hot rod, Bike, Custom car, Race car, British, Italian, Jap, French, American and German cars. Prizes will also go to the best Front, Rear and 4 Wheel Drive sub 2 litre Turbos, plus 2 litre Turbos and above. Club trophies will include Best Club Stand, Best All Round Club (on and off strip), Best Club in Top 10 and for Furthest Travelled Club/Forum Member. The prizes will be subject to the number of entrants participating.
Those wishing to take part will have to register their club or forum prior to the event as knowledge of competitor numbers will be crucial in order to set up class structures, numbers etc.
Organisers say that although this event is primarily aimed at enthusiasts, clubs and forums, everyone is welcome to take part or spectate, just as at a normal Thrash event.Meanwhile, the search for the best ‘Show & Shine’ vehicles that Scotland has to offer will continue as part of the day’s schedule.
The only requirement to take part at Crail is a valid UK driving licence, £7 for admission and a £15 signing-on fee, which entitles participants to unlimited runs. At the end of the day personal performance print-outs showing reaction times to the start lights, 60', 1/4 mile times, and top speed will be given out – personal times can be easily accessed through www.crailraceway.co.uk
