Brands Values

The seventh round of the British GT Championship visits Brands Hatch in Kent, hot off the back of its maiden visit to Rockingham. Former BTCC driver Luke Hines took victory on the track by 0.3 seconds at the previous round but a one-second penalty demoted him and team-mate Tom Kimber-Smith to second. However, they still share the championship lead, heading for the full GP circuit at Brands Hatch and Motors TV has highlights of both races.

A Common sight

The 2006 NASCAR Busch Series visits the Richmond International Raceway in Virginia for the second time this year. Once again, the 43-car field will race on the 0.75-mile oval at night, under the floodlights. This is common practice at Richmond – all its main events are after sundown. Not only that but the raceway is completely surrounded by spectators, so the combination guarantees exceptional racing and a like-you-were-there atmosphere. Motors TV has highlights of the 28th round of this year’s series.

 World domination

The World Series by Renault heads for Donington Park in the UK for the seventh round of this year’s series. The series’ status as one of the key feeders to Formula One was demonstrated at the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, when reigning champion Robert Kubica stood in for Jacques Villeneuve at BMW Sauber. He finished ninth on the track, before being disqualified for an underweight car. Still, Alvaro Parente and Andy Soucek, who share the title lead currently, will be harbouring thoughts of similar success as they hit Donington.

 Boy’s Toys

Another of Nick Lera’s delightful documentaries provides a pause for breath this week, as Toy Train To The Clouds travels on the 19th Century Darjeeling Himalayan, one of the world’s favourite small trains. The program contains a full profile of the winding hill trains, as well as classic footage from when it remained all-steam, prior to partial conversion to diesel power.

 Just drifting along

Drifting is big news right now and the second round of the Australian Toyo Tyres Drift Nationals took place at the Queensland Raceway. Drifting involves rear wheel-drive cars powersliding through a series of bends and points are awarded for speed through the bends, drift angle, proximity to the apex of the corners and for additional style, like producing clouds of tyre smoke. High powered Japanese cars tend to be favourite but expect large V8-powered local machinery to make an appearance in Australia.

 Super twins

Round seven of the 2006 Super GT series heads for Twin Ring Motegi, home of motorsport in Japan. Daisuke Ito and UK’s Ralph Firman lead the championship and also recently topped the times at the official test at the circuit, so must be favourites for a race weekend victory. But, with three rounds to go, it certainly isn’t anywhere near over and they will need every trick in the book to secure the 2006 crown. Motors TV has highlights of the 300Km race.

 Kartmaster’s degree

The crème of karting headed for the PF International raceway in Lincolnshire in August for the annual, one-off Kartmasters competition. A variety of categories take part, with class winners, as well as an overall champion, who walks away with the coveted ‘GP’ plate to carry on their kart. Motors TV has highlights of the action, with drivers as young as 10 competing in the biggest karting event in Europe.
