Saturdays Sports 2000 race at Silverstone saw a successful debut for Lola Cars new Sports 2000 contender the B07/90
Driven by Nigel Greensall the latest in a long line of Lola Sports 2000 cars took the tightest of wins beating Rick Johnson’s Van Diemen by a nose after 15 laps of thrilling racing.
The B07/90 concept is based on the knowledge gained through years of building race winning designs for Le Mans type cars. The family resemblance with Lola’s LMP2 cars will be obvious and as with all Lola designs particular attention has been paid to aerodynamic performance.
Friday practice saw the Lola on pole position by 0.422 seconds from Johnson. At the flagfall on Saturday Johnson led away but by the end of the first lap Greensall was in front and would cross the line first on every lap. However this doesn’t tell the story of a race where the lead was changing up to three times a lap.
The B07/90 will now be fine tuned and made ready for sale so teams can be testing in good time for the 2007 season.
