Petrov wins and gets closer to the Fisichella drivers in the rankings
Fourth success in the Euroseries 3000 for Vitaly Petrov (Euronova), who won in Barcellona on a finally dry track after two rainy days.
The race was full of surprises. It was Tuka Rocha (Minardi) who took the lead at the start but he was then penalized with a drive through due to jump start; Davide Rigon (Minardi), took over the lead, with Petrov in second position - Petrov tried hard to overtake him and finally managed todo so. Matteo Cressoni (Traini/Vanni) finished third, getting a
Rocha came back from ninth to fourth.
An early end to the race for the two Fisichella Motorsport drivers, who are fighting for theChampionship as, at the start, Alex Ciompi (Avelon) went on the grass, closed by the poleman Gavin Cronje (Auto Sport), then, braking at the first turn, with the tyres still dirty, took off on Bonanomi's car - to end his flight on Ricci. A black week-end for the team and expecially for Bonanomi who had been involved in an accident in Saturday's race.
The excellent performance of the Euronova team was confirmed by Jerome D’Ambrosio recordingthe fastest time, before being obliged to retire with a technical problem when he was fighting for the lead.
A great debut also for Johnny Cecotto jr, with the Coloni F.3000 Rookies' Team, who gainedthe fifth position.
Before this Barcellona event, the challenge for the title was almost closed between Ricci andBonanomi, but now Vitaly Petrov will not give up his chances in the next events.
