Quaife takes Carrera Cup pro-am title
While Damien Faulkner won the overall Porsche Carrera Cup GB title at Brands Hatch yesterday (24 September), Phil Quaife was confirmed as the inaugural pro-am champion after a fine campaign with the Motorbase Performance team. With two races still to run, 20-year old Quaife has won the pro-am category in nine of the 18 races to date and has only failed to finish twice."I’m really glad we chose Carrera Cup this year," said Quaife. "The pro-am title was definitely the aim for this season. But we didn’t know until the first round where we’d be on the grid. It’s been a great year and I’ve really enjoyed it."Although plans for 2007 are not yet confirmed, Quaife certainly expects to stay with Porsche. "I’ve really enjoyed my year with Porsche and I’ll definitely stay with the car, either in Carrera Cup or Supercup. I can’t be classed as a pro-am in Carrera Cup again next year, so if I do that I’ll be going for the overall title!"The battle for remaining pro-am championship placings will be resolved at Silverstone over the weekend of 14/15 October. Currently, Nigel Rice (104 points), David Ashburn (94), Andy Purdie (89) and Jason Young (88) are all in contention for a share in the £13,000 end-of-season pro-am category prize money.
