V8s and mates…

One of Australia’s biggest sporting events takes place this week and Motors TV will be there. The Bathurst 1000 is legendary among motorsport fans the world over and is round nine of the 2006 V8 Supercar series. The event runs for 1000kms on a circuit which climbs up Mount Panorama, near Sydney. The circuit is revered among drivers and fans alike, with its two huge straights and a very narrow section running across the side of the mountain. Motors TV will be showing the entire race live for the best coverage of all the action from down under.

A maniacal laugh

The 2006 Red Bull Romaniacs is a five-day motorbike Enduro race through Romania. It’s described by the organisers as a ‘hard Enduro rallye’ and when it comes to this sport, if organisers describe it as hard, then it is going to be really tough! There are four classes, three for bikes and one for quads and the route takes the competitors from Bucharest through the foothills of the Carpathian mountains to the finish at Sibiu. Motors TV has highlights of this incredible adventure.

Feeling revived

The annual Goodwood Revival is held in the highest regard among devotees of classic and vintage motorsport. A host of the most famous names in motorsport, such as Sir Stirling Moss, Patrick Tambay, Damon Hill and Wayne Gardener have all competed at the event. The Revival sees an incredible array of cars and bikes compete in a series of races on the Goodwood circuit, just a stones-throw from the famous Goodwood House. Motors TV has highlights of this year’s event in the English countryside.

Kings of the Hill

The sixth round of the British RallyCross Championship visited Lydden Hill in Kent, one of the key circuits on the calendar. Christopher Evans took his fourth win of the season on the circuit, which combines fast and sweeping gravel corners with tighter tarmac ones. This was despite a torrential rain storm which stopped running for 20 minutes and had marshals out clearing standing water from the circuit. Motors TV has highlights of the day’s action.

Those magnificent Le Mans

The DTM series visits the Bugatti circuit at Le Mans this week, for its penultimate round. The DTM has expanded its range of circuits this year and Le Mans is the last of the ‘new’ circuits for the racers. Audi driver Tom Kristensen demonstrated the A4 DTM at the 24 Hours of Le Mans earlier in the year, to rapturous applause. The race will also be a special one for Jean Alesi, as he retires from motorsport at the end of the season. Motors TV will, as usual, be showing the all-important qualifying session live on Saturday, followed by the full race action, also live, on Sunday.

A Silverstone lining

The final round of the 2006 British Touring Car Championship takes place at Silverstone and if the rest of this year is anything to go by, the action will be red-hot. Matt Neal and Jason Plato have been fighting tooth-and-nail all season and the chances are one of those two will walk away as 2006 champion. But Colin Turkington is still in the fight, at the wheel of the RAC MG ZS while Gordon Sheddon, a graduate of the SEAT Cupra Championship, one of the support series, has the best win/start ratio of the drivers and could spring a few surprises. Motors TV will be showing all three BTCC races, as well as the support series, live.
