BEN Honda Karting Final

Results of the 2006 BEN Honda Karting Final

The atmosphere was electric as 19 karts lined up on the grid for the start of the 100 lap final of the BEN Honda Karting Championship at the JM Kartsport 1,200 metre length track at Brandon, Lincolnshire.    The grid was made up by the top three qualifying teams from six regional heats held during the summer months and wildcard entries from the top fundraisers from each event.

Once the starting lights turned green the Unipart Auto Team, on pole position, took the lead, closely followed by the APG Volkswagen Team and hot in pursuit, the Bluebell BMW team looked for any opportunity to overtake.   With five drivers per team and each scheduled for a stint of 20 laps as well as one fuel stop meant that each team had to be slick during their five pit stops.

The first three teams, evenly matched during the morning qualifying session, held their positions until midway through the race when the APG Volkswagen Team appeared in first position and the Camberley Auto Factors team Cool and Fast into second.    Not to be outclassed, the Unipart Auto Team held their nerve working their way back up the field.

FINAL RESULTS

There was much jostling for track position down the grid from the other teams and when the chequered flag was finally raised, top honours went to the APG Volkswagen Team. One lap down, the Bentley Team Barnato claimed second with the Unipart Auto Team finishing in third position.

Fastest lap also went to the Unipart Auto Team with the prize of top fundraisers - raising a substantial £5,300 for BEN.     The 2006 Karting Championship was declared a great success both for the innovative fundraising on behalf of BEN and the close and exciting competition from all Teams.   Over £30,000 was raised for the charity.
