Jordan making good progress

Mike Jordan is doing well in hospital this morning (Monday 16 October), following his major accident at Silverstone during the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race.

Mike had been running very strongly in the lead pack in the John Guest and Pirtek supported Honda Integra, when he was inadvertently pitched into the wall at Woodcote corner. He suffered several broken ribs and took a hefty blow to the head in the side-on impact.

He was airlifted to hospital, but despite initial concerns over the severity of his injuries, Mike regained consciousness later on Sunday. This morning (Monday 16 October) he was able to report good progress. "I'm feeling a bit groggy and my ribs are sore, but I hope to out of hospital in a day or two," he said.

"I'd just like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped me following the accident," he continued. "In particular, Dr Paul Trafford, the medical crews, rescue crews and marshals at the scene and the Coventry and Warwickshire air ambulance. Their professional care was outstanding. I'd also like to thank Alan Gow, Bob Kettleboro and Dennis Carter from the BTCC organising team and apologise for messing up their timetable!"

The accident happened as Jason Plato's SEAT suffered driveshaft failure and slowed suddenly in the pack. Jordan had nowhere to go, and clipped the SEAT as he tried to avoid it. "I remember hitting the back of Jason Plato and then waking up in hospital! It was no one's fault, just one of those classic racing accidents."

Mike also wants to pass on his thanks to many people who have enquired about him. "I'd like to send my thanks to all the teams, drivers and fans who have shown an interest in my condition."
