Motors TV Weekly Highlights

Week 43, 21 - 29 October 2006

The finale countdown…

The final round of this year’s American Le Mans Series takes the teams and drivers to the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterrey, California. One of the most dramatic circuits on the calendar, the four-hour race will take the teams into the evening, much as it did at the previous round, the 10-hour Petit Le Mans. The LMP1 category looks like a foregone conclusion, with Audi proving dominant but P2 is still open, with Intersport Racing looking to continue its run of form and claim the lead from the Porsche factory team. Motors TV has the entire race live, for all the action from this superb circuit.

Gold Coast ticket

The tenth round of the 2006 V8 Supercar series visits the Gold Coast this week for three races on the awesome Surfer’s Paradise street circuit. It’s an incredibly fast yet technical circuit, where the drivers will reach speeds of 240kph before braking for 90 degree corners at just 70kph, so overtaking and action are guaranteed. Craig Lowndes heads the table and has proved Mr Consistency this season but the series still has this and three more rounds to go, so it’s anyone’s championship. Motors TV has delayed coverage of all three races, one on Saturday and two on Sunday.

Not a cold turkey

The penultimate round of this year’s FIA Junior World Rally Championship takes the teams to Turkey. No less than seven drivers can still take honours in this feeder series to the World Rally Championship, which has spawned drivers such as current champion Sebastien Loeb and his team-mate and newly announced official Citroen driver for 2007, Dani Sordo. Motors TV has highlights of the three days of action over the rough and rocky gravel stages in the area around Kemer.

Champing at the bit

While the V8 Supercars are racing on the Surfer’s Paradise circuit, so is the Champ Car World Series, the event forming the penultimate round of the 2006 season. The Champ Cars, with their turbocharged V8 engines will hit almost 200mph on the same street circuit, before breaking to 60mph for the tight chicanes on the start/finish straight. AJ Allmendinger’s win at Elkhart Lake means that the championship fight, between him and Sebastien Bourdais, is still on but Bourdais just needs to finish one of the two remaining rounds in 15th to sew it up and claim another title.

The 2006 Formula Woman Nation’s Cup starts in earnest, now the main championship has been won by Nikki Welsby. The first two double-headers take place at Silverstone and Snetterton and the series is open to any female racer from around the world. Last year’s series drew entries from as far afield as Australia and South Africa and this year is sure to prove just as popular. Motors TV has highlights of the first two rounds of the three-round series.
