The Euroseries 3000 and Italian F3000 Championships will draw to a close at Misano, Italy, this weekend but Fisichella Motorsport are already celebrating winning the Euroseries 3000 Championship.
Although Fisichella Motor Sport have already won the Euroseries 3000 Championship it is still unclear which of their drivers will come top. Giacomo Ricci and Marco Bonanomi are the only drivers still in the running and the championship fight between the team mates was blown wide open last weekend at Vallelunga, Italy. Despite having not topped the podium since Mugello in July, Marco Bonanomi increased his chances by winning race one. This means Giacomo Ricci is now leading Bonanomi by just 6 points with the maximum 19 points still up for grabs. The stage is set for a thrilling final round.
The Italian F3000 Championship goes to Misano still undecided. Although mathematically FMS only need to score one point to take the championship the team are not taking anything for granted. The championship is not over until the final lap and in the unlikely event that the FMS drivers fail to score Vitaly Petrov can be crowned champion. Petrov would however need to win both races, pole position and claim fastest lap in both races; a big ask of any driver. As with the Euroseries 3000, either FMS driver can take the Championship this weekend, and Giacomo Ricci is leading team mate Marco Bonanomi by an even smaller margin of 5 points.
Fisichella Motorsport have been competing to defend its crown and claim back-to-back championships in the newly named Euroseries 3000. Having already secured the Euroseries championship Fisichella Motor Sport go to next weeks final round looking set to secure the F3000 Championship too; FMS are currently 39 points clear of their nearest rivals Minardi.
The final Euroseries 3000 and Italian F3000 Championship rounds are taking place at Misano, Italy, on October 22nd.
