Lexmark Indy 300 Round 7 Results No rain on Zukanovic's parade

Torrential rain poured down during Race 3 of the Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series yesterday at the Lexmark Indy 300 but the wet weather didn't stop current series leader Marcus Zukanovic from earning his first Round win this series. Following an extraordinary two race victory and a third race second place in today's final race.

With only one round left in the series at Eastern Creek next month, today's race was a make or break situation for series front runners whilst the torrential rain put constant pressure on all competitors.

First place went to Team IMB's Damien "Iceman" White who powered through on turn 4 to take the lead and secure a Race 3 finish

"I felt really comfortable in the car, and she bounced back from my write off last year in the same conditions, to win by such a great margin was very satisfying" said the Iceman who is named after his incredible ability not to melt under pressur! e. White's consistent top ten finishes put him in good stead to place second outright for the Round.

"I said in a radio interview before I came here I was either going to get smashed up on track or smash the other drivers in pace and skill, I am really happy that it was the latter, and that I won it against extremely tough competition, Marcus."

White explained "The Z-man really raised the bar yesterday with his outstanding drive where he took the lead on the last corner to win by 5 tenths of a second."

Third place in today's race and the Round went to OBH Ford BF Falcon XR8 driver Kerry Wade.

"I am very happy with the results, to rank above my mate and fellow sandgroper Grant this weekend was my aim and I've now edged up in the points where I wanted to be, for a chance to gain a third place finish in the series overall" said Perth based Kerry Wade.

! The talented Action Tyres and More local Holden SS Commodore driver Matt Kingsley gained an impressive 13 places throughout the race. From the moment his engine started, to the final seconds where he flew across the finish line side ways, he was charging hard. This gutsy young star well and truly earned himself the PGF Drive of the Day Award.

Wake Up Hotel's Warren "Big Boy" Millet took out the Sonax best presented award with his flash looking #28 Holden Ute.

Not all water today was from the rain, with a few shedding tears over the unfortunate fate of young star Craig Dontas, who for the first time this weekend wasn't plagued by mechanical issues. He finished a lap today, finally breaking his record but didn't manage to finish the race, returning to the pits suffering from no vision due to fog on the windscreen.

The black flag went out to drivers Warren Millet, Matt O'Grady and Matt Moorehead for jum! ping the curb on the notorious first chicane. A 30 second penalty was rewarded to each driver, moving them to the back of the pack.

Although the Round action is complete the Australian V8 Ute Racing entertainment is still firing on all cylinders, with the V8 Supermodel International Final taking place at Shooters Saloon Bar tomorrow night.
