Andrew Jordan finished fourth overall in the Shannon Holdings Rallycross Superprix at the Croft circuit in North Yorkshire on Sunday (29 October).
Andrew was racing a Saab 9-3 run by veteran competitor Per Eklund in the international event and finished a fighting fourth overall in the Super Final. In the process, former European Rallycross Champion Eklund was very impressed by Andrew's pace.
His fastest lap in the Super Final was just three-tenths of a second slower than European ace Kenneth Hansen, despite Andrew driving a far less developed car. "He's very good," said Eklund. "I can’t believe he is only three-tenths off Hansen in that car!"
"I got on really well with the car," said Andrew. "I had a great weekend and it was really good to worth with Per Eklund. But if I'd had my regular Ford Focus, I really think I could have won the Super Final," he added.
The Superprix ran on a knock-out basis, so Andrew had to keep finishing in the top three to progress to the next stage. However, there was controversy when British champion Christopher Evans was sidelined in one of the semi-finals after an accident. The race was re-started and Andrew finished third, only to be told that the organisers were going to re-run the race once Evans was ready to rejoin the grid.
"If the organisers want to keep a wild card option for the final, then fine," said Andrew's father Mike. "But they shouldn’t mess up everyone else's day by changing the rules."
With Evans allowed back in, Andrew finished fourth in the final, but the late changes meant he was denied a place on the overall podium.
