Vietoris wins the season final.

Hockenheim. In the final race of the season, the Formula BMW Germany drivers delivered another impressive display of talent before the crowds at the Hockenheimring. After covering 50.314 kilometres on a damp track, Christian Vietoris (Lissendorf/Josef Kaufmann Racing) crossed the start/finish line as the winner. The runners-up were Martin Ragginger (AUT/Eifelland Racing), the previous day's winner, and Marco Holzer (Bobingen/AM-Holzer Rennsport GmbH).

"After crashing out of yesterday's race, I'm all the more thrilled with such a fantastic end to the season," said Vietoris. It was the ninth win of the season for the 17-year-old from Lissendorf, which meant he had won half of all the 2006 races. The results of Sunday's race had no impact on the battle for the championship title - Vietoris had already secured that early on in the 15th race at Zandvoort in Holland. Jens Klingmann of Leimen was first to cross the finish line on Saturday morning in the first race of the weekend to win the rookie championship.

The winners' trophies were personally presented by BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen: "The season has ended with two great races by an international field of drivers. This year once again there were a number of young talents who made their mark in Formula BMW Germany," said Theissen before congratulating the new title-holders. In the end, Vietoris won the championship with 277 points ahead of Mika Mäki (FIN/Eifelland Racing, 182) and Holzer (129). In the rookie standings Klingmann managed to collect 272 points, relegating Philipp Eng (AUT/ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg, 248) and Maximilian Wissel (Hörstein/GU-Racing Motorsportteam, 210) to second and third places.

But for some of the drivers the highlight of the season is yet to come. From 24 to 26 November, 38 drivers from 18 countries will be gathering in Valencia to compete in the DELL Formula BMW World Final. A highly attractive prize beckons for the winner, namely a test drive with the BMW Sauber F1 Team. Last year's World Final winner, Marco Holzer, will be fulfilling his "absolute dream" in Valencia on 23 November when he takes his test drive.
