Tiago Monteiro will drive the “Zero” Car in the Algarve Rally
F1 Driver helps with the safety of the South Portugal race
Accepting Peugeot Portugal’s invitation, Tiago Monteiro will take part in the Casinos do Algarve Rally on the weekend of the 17th and 18th of November by driving the safety “course” car, a Peugeot 206 GTi with trophy specifications. This will be something new in the career of the only F1 Portuguese driver who expects this to be quite an interesting and fun experience.
Throughout his career Tiago Monteiro has driven a diverse range of vehicles, although he has always concentrated most on single seaters racing. Besides the Porsche in his first race in the Cup de France races, and later on the F.3, F.3000, Champ Car, World Series by Nissan, Chrysler Viper, Lamborghini Diablo and the F.1 Renault and Minardi in tests, and Jordan F1, Midland F1 and Spyker F1 in races, Tiago Monteiro has already had experiences which are quite different from those he is used to on the tarmac.
“It is more of a new experience than a challenge. With the “Zero” car I will have a number of tasks and responsibilities and for the first time I will have someone at my side telling me what I should do. Paulo Primaz is a good navigator to help me get the most enjoyment out of the car as possible. I thank Peugeot Sport Portugal for this invitation and Carlos Barros who promoted the idea and I hope that our work will be a plus for the rally’s organisers and for the public,” said Tiago Monteiro who promises to contribute towards the spectacle.
Off the tracks, Tiago Monteiro has had a number of experiences which stand out in his career: “Taking part in the races on ice tracks in the Andros Trophy, which were the greatest, and in the 24 Hour Off-Road in Fronteira which was impressive for the complexity of the terrain and the spectacular atmosphere you get in these races. I have been following the latest races in the National Rally Championship and this invitation came about naturally. I always like new challenges and trying out new cars, so this is going to be just great!”
