Young drivers for Porsche Carrera Cup
The six finalists in the 2006 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award will get to race in the 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup GB. Each of the six talented young racers will spend a weekend in the Carrera Cup GB VIP car, tackling two races in the 400bhp 911GT3 Cup car.Jon Barnes, Sam Bird, Nathan Freke, Jeremy Metcalfe, Oliver Oakes and award winner Oliver Turvey will all get a fantastic opportunity to sample top-level sportscar racing in 2007. Each of them drove a Carrera Cup car at Snetterton last month as part of the award evaluation process."We're delighted to give these six young drivers a chance to sample the Carrera Cup," said Marion Barnaby, championship manager for the Carrera Cup GB. "We've had some tremendous performances from young drivers previously and I'm sure they will all benefit from the chance to race the latest 911GT3 Cup car."In addition, two former finalists from the Award will each contest a race weekend in the BTCC-supporting race series. The names and dates will be confirmed shortly.The final two VIP slots in the 10-weekend Carrera Cup schedule will be awarded to drivers from the Porsche Club GB race series. As overall winner of the Porsche Club Championship, Ian White will sample the Carrera Cup for the second time. Meanwhile, as leading 911GT3 racer in the Porsche Open Series, Peter Morris also earns a weekend in the 2007 Carrera Cup GB.
