Statement from Silverstone re calendar

2007 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship - Calendar announcement - Statement from Silverstone Circuits Limited:

Following yesterday’s announcement from TOCA, Silverstone is disappointed that at present it is not included on the calendar for the 2007 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). Silverstone was originally offered the 21-22 April date by organisers of the BTCC, which the circuit formally  accepted,  making  the  date  available  by  re-working  existing  bookings  in  their  2007 calendar of events. Silverstone is currently in discussions with the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) and TOCA to try and understand the reasons for not being included on the 2007 BTCC calendar which has been issued. Silverstone  is  surprised  that  the  organisers  have  decided  to  have  40%  of  the  BTCC  calendar hosted by two venues.

The circuit firmly believes that hosting a round of the series at Silverstone would offer more variation to competitors and teams, as well as spectators. Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, said: “Silverstone cannot really comment at this point save that it is disappointed that it is not at present included on the 2007 BTCC calendar. Silverstone is continuing to liaise with BARC and TOCA to try and find out the fundamental reasons for not being included as a host circuit next year. It is a shame  for  our  loyal  fans  that  they  will  not  be  able  to  watch  BTCC  at  Silverstone,  the  home  of British Motorsport, for the first time in BTCC history.”
