Silverstone and Porsche to develop Porsche Driver Training Facility
An overwhelming majority of British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) members, owners of Silverstone Circuits Limited, have accepted plans for Porsche Cars GB to develop a Porsche Driver Training Facility at the world famous Northamptonshire circuit. Porsche and Silverstone are set to formalise the link and apply for planning permission. Porsche intend to lease land from Silverstone to develop the Driver Training Facility at the east of the circuit on the site of the old rally sprint track, on the outside of Becketts. It is proposed that the purpose built venue will host test track, driver training and safety facilities.
Stuart Rolt, Chairman of the BRDC said: “We are delighted to bring this illustrious association to Silverstone. It is an honour for our venue to welcome this world famous car manufacturer, Porsche. The association fits well with our ambitions for Silverstone and we are confident that the facility will enhance Silverstone’s high tech image.” Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, said: “This is a very exciting development for Silverstone with a great partnership with Porsche - a truly iconic and prestigious brand. We will work closely with the Porsche team over the coming months to ensure that this project realises the partnership at the Home of British Motorsport.”
