Avila tests at Valencia

Macau SAR race car driver Rodolfo Avila completed a successful two day F3 test before christmas with British F3 International Series team Performance Racing Europe, on the Ricardo Tormo Circuit of Valencia in the south of Spain.

Almost twenty cars from British, Italian and Spanish F3 tested at Valencia in the past week. Avila had opportunity to return to Championship Class’ Dallara F306 – Mügen Honda cockpit. In the dry conditions of the first day, Avila set the second time of the day just being beaten by the experienced F3 English driver Steven Jelley of Double R Racing.

In the second day, Avila tested with difficult conditions. The team and the driver exploited a number of different wet weather set-ups. Avila looked back on the tests with good feelings. Commenting on the Valencia test, the Macanese motorsport rising star said: “In the first day we reached the pace. Steven was impressively fast but I think we could go even faster. It was the first time of Performance Racing at Valencia with F306 chassis. The second day was ok but we had to work hard in the wet setup. I guess we have to improve in the rain conditions but I’m very satisfied with team progress since the ingress of the new graduate members”.After this positive experience, the driver and the team will evaluate the possibility to continue to work together in 2007 but a decision isn't expected before the Chinese New Year. The final decision on where Macau flag will wave will depend on the sponsor’s wishes. “I hope that all my sponsors will stay with me next year and take the next step on the motor sport ladder. I would like to jump to Championship Class but that is a huge effort for all. Their 2006 backup was fantastic and I understand the difficulties we have to face to carry on such program”.British F3 2007 competitors are not allowed to test until mid February so Rodolfo Avila will use that time to put together a valuable project for his sponsors. A group of high-status enterprises and institutions of Macau SAR supported in 2006 the “Macanese Motorsport Ambassador in Europe”.
