HGTCC to support WTCC and A1GP events
The Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge will have races at two of the biggest motor sport events in Britain this season following confirmation that the series will be a support race at the FIA World Touring Car Championship and A1GP meetings at Brands Hatch. The two headline dates are part of the best-ever calendar for the Heritage series, which also takes in BTCC and F3/GT dates, covering Snetterton, Donington Park and Silverstone as well as the pair of high-profile dates at Brands Hatch. The seven-event schedule will conclude with a date at Spa-Francorchamps.Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of MotorSport Vision said: "I am delighted that Brands Hatch will be hosting two rounds of the Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge during 2007. No circuit in the country has more heritage than Brands Hatch so it is particularly fitting that these spectacular cars should race not just at Brands Hatch, but on the full Grand Prix circuit."I have followed the evolution of Roger Bennington’s excellent HTCC series carefully and always make a point of watching the races, basically because there is a great mix of historic cars being driven with real gusto! Seeing Astons mix with Mustangs, Minis and Anglias is brilliant – some are quick down the straights and others on the corners."The addition of the Heritage cars to both the A1GP and the World Touring Car Championship round will provide great added appeal for spectators and I am sure will provide some terrific racing. Following our substantial investment Brands Hatch is now the best it’s ever been for both spectator amenity and driver safety. The fans have recognised this and the crowds are back, which is very rewarding.""We are extremely honoured and privileged to be asked to support these two major international events at Brands Hatch," says series boss Roger Bennington. "We are delighted that Jonathan Palmer and his team at MotorSport Vision have made it possible for us to race on the magnificent Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch."The HGTCC is one of the leading race series in Britain for sports, saloon and GT cars from the 1960s and 1970s and ended the 2006 season with capacity grids and unprecedented interest from potential series newcomers.Managed by Heritage Racing Support, the class is home to a glorious range of cars; from Mini Coopers to Chevrolet Camaros; from Corvette Stingrays to Aston Martins. All the cars must remain in period specification and race on moulded treaded tyres. The provisional calendar is as follows:Apr 21/22 Donington Park (F3/GT)Apr 27-29 Brands Hatch GP (A1 GP)Jun 2/3 Snetterton (F3/GT)Jul 28/29 Snetterton (BTCC)Aug 11 Silverstone (F3/GT)Sep 21-23 Brands Hatch GP (WTCC)Oct 13/14 Spa-FrancorchampsThe class structure has been slightly amended for 2007 and is as follows:A) SaloonsB) Mildly-modified carsC) Full-race modified cars up to 4500cc A) Full-race modified cars over 4500cc
