Bratt enters charity kart challenge
Formula Renault UK race winner Will Bratt is to join a whole host of celebrities from the world of motorsport at Birmingham’s NEC next Friday, 12th January, as part of a special charity karting event at the 2007 Autosport International Show.The motor racing extravaganza, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from across the globe every January, will stage the second annual televised Celebrity Kart Challenge on the Friday of the four-day event with 18-year-old Will competing as part of a team of Formula Renault UK drivers, running under the banner FRUKing Quick.His Scorpio Motorsport team-mate from last season, David Epton, and Formula Renault BARC podium-finisher Matt Shawyer are to join Will alongside a lucky member of the public for the 60-minute endurance race. The quartet will be raising money for Whizz-Kidz, the national charity which provides sophisticated, customised mobility equipment for disabled youngsters to help make a truly life-changing difference.Led by ex-Formula One star David Brabham and his Racing4Charity.com organisation, the Celebrity Kart Challenge has become firmly established as a key part of Autosport International and after the success of the 2006 event, hopes are high for next week’s race which is set to be televised at a later date on digital satellite channel Motors TV.Speaking ahead of the charity kart race, Adderbury-based Will commented: “It should all be really great fun and I’m sure with quick team-mates like David and Matt we stand a terrific chance of doing well in the race.“I haven’t been in a kart for quite some time so I’m really looking forward to taking part in the Celebrity Kart Challenge. Obviously, the main aim is to raise as much as we can for charity but we’re all determined racers and we want to win so we’ll be driving as hard as we can to try and take the victory.”Competing alongside 14 other teams featuring drivers from disciplines such as the DTM touring car series, Formula 3 and GT racing, Will’s quartet is bidding to outpace them all during the hour-long event and raise as much money as possible for Whizz-Kidz. Having started his motorsport career in karting, Will’s first championship success came at just 10 years of age in the 1999 Hoddesdon Kart Club Cadet series. After making his car racing debut three years later he went on, in 2004, to claim an outstanding title triumph in the T-Car Championship, taking an incredible 14 race victories from 18 starts.Will switched to single-seater competition at the end of 2004, moving into the competitive world of Formula Renault UK at the tender age of 16. As part of the Scorpio Motorsport team he achieved his maiden category win last season and the Apotex Pharmaceuticals supported star went on to finish eighth overall in the driver standings. Autosport International will run over four days at the Birmingham NEC, starting with press and trade day next Thursday, 11th January. Trade visitors will continue to have access to the event on Friday, 12th January, ahead of the two public days on Saturday and Sunday, 13th/14th January.
