Shell V-power launches search for best driver
Shell has launched the search for Britain’s Best Driver. Two male and female teams will battle it out in a series of driving tasks in a bid to be named ‘Britain’s Best Driver’
Signed up to captain the two teams are TV presenter Ian Wright who gained 33 England caps and became Arsenal’s highest ever goal scorer and Supermodel, Jodie Kidd who has competed in several Gumball Rallies and is a racing fanatic.
Ian Wright commenting on his appointment as a team captain said: “It’s a great honour to be competing in the first ever Shell V-Power Britain’s Best Driver Challenge and finally get the opportunity to find out if men have been better drivers than women all along!”
Team Captain, Jodie Kidd said “I am honoured to be captaining the women’s team. There are some great drivers on both teams but under my tuition I think we can safely say the girls are going to give the boys a run for their money! I’m definitely backing the girls all the way!”
Completing the teams will be twenty carefully chosen candidates from across the UK, ten men versus ten women, who will be battling it out competing for the title of Britain’s Best Driver.
Profiles of the captains, contestants and further information on the challenges they will be facing are available on www.shell.co.uk/bestdriver and you can follow the progress of the teams from January 19th when weekly instalments on how they are faring will be available. The final showdown web cast will be on the 14th February.
In a series of specially designed challenges at Silverstone, the famous home of the British Grand Prix, the 20 drivers will battle it out for the title of Britain’s Best Driver. Each challenge has been given a special Shell V-Power twist and the programme of events will include a range of tests to measure a combination of agility, dexterity and skill.
The Pit Stop Challenge will test teamwork and individual skill. Two teams go head to head acting as pit crew. It’s all about attention to detail and concentration, checking tyre pressures, changing wheels and getting the car out of the pits quicker that the other team. The Skid-pan Penalties will see drivers avoiding cones and responding to changes in the car's handling. They will be marked on their ability to keep control and finish the course.
The competition will also encompass a theory-based driving exam - a reaction, emotional and intelligence test related to motoring. These scores will be compiled with the driving challenges scoring to establish a ‘complete performance’ points table. The driver with the highest points at the end of two day challenge will be declared Britain’s Best Driver.
But who will come out on top, the men or the women? There can only be one winner!
