Hankook renews partnership with Volkswagen Racing Cup for 2007

Global tyre giant Hankook is once again set to support one of the UK’s most exciting racing series as a key sponsor of the Volkswagen Racing Cup.

The Volkswagen Racing Cup in association with Hankook is one of the most successful manufacturer-backed saloon series ever to run in the UK and is now in its seventh year.

For the second year running Hankook will be a key sponsor of the series which will continue as a support race to the prestigious British Formula 3 and British GT Championships.

“We are delighted to be renewing our association with such a successful race series,’’ said Hankook motorsports manager Mike Patterson.

“Last year the competitors were extremely enthusiastic about the Hankook tyres and their first opportunity to use slick tyres so we are delighted to build on these foundations with even more success for 2007.’’

2006 Champion Paul Taylor has already pledged to defend his title as up to 30 drivers bid for success in the series which takes in 12 races over six weekends.

Action gets underway in April at Oulton Park before races at Donington Park, Snetterton, Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Rockingham.

The Volkswagen Racing Cup in association with Hankook is widely regarded as the most exciting saloon car championship in the UK.

Its innovative regulations put all cars into a single class based on power to weight ratios. Open to any model of racing Volkswagen, the Cup has attracted drivers of the Beetle RSi, Corrado, Vento & Golf VR6, Golf GTI, Scirocco GTI, Polo, Lupo and Bora models.

Engine usage has been just as varied, with turbocharged and even turbodiesel power competing alongside the established 4 and 6 cylinder engines.
