Lockie prepares for busy 2007 season

Calum Lockie is gearing up for another busy season of racing in 2007, having already confirmed a full campaign in the Dutch Supercar Championship and drives in the 24-hour races at Silverstone and the Nurburgring.

But before the 2007 season kicks off, Calum recently picked up a special award from 2006. At the annual EERC awards dinner on Friday (12 January), he was presented with the 'Britcar driver of the year' award in recognition of his performances during 2006. "It was great to receive such an award." Admitted Lockie. "It's always very nice to be recognised!"

Now, he is turning his attention to the 2007 season, which will centre on sharing a Butler Motorsport entry with Paul White in the Dutch Supercar Championship. Initially, they will campaign a BMW M3, but could change to a more powerful car as the season develops. With races at Zandvoort, Zolder, Oschersleben, Silverstone, Assen and the Nurburgring, the nine-round championship is set for a cracking season and several of the races will be at very high profile race meetings. "We'll be racing in front of 50,000 plus crowds at several events, so it should be an excellent season."

In addition, the team will tackle the Silverstone 24 Hours in early September and Calum will also contest the Nurburgring 24 Hours in June at the wheel of a VW Golf GTi. He first drove the Golf for a German team on the Nordschleife last October, and passed over 50 cars in five laps in the rain en route to a podium finish in a four-hour race. In June, the team will bid for class success in the 24-hour race.

Lockie has a number of other possible opportunities for 2007, and is in discussion over drives at Le Mans, in the Le Mans Series, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and the Britcar Championship. He hopes to confirm more races in the near future.
