Willmott plans Carrera Cup programme

Colin Willmott is the latest driver to confirm plans to step up to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this season after racing in Britcar events during 2006. After five seasons in club racing, Willmott will contest the pro-am category within the Carrera Cup GB.The Redditch racer, a 36-year old property developer, has bought the ex-Sam Edwards car from Team Parker Racing and will have it prepared by former works MG engineer Ian Tilsley and Colin Wright under the Team TWC banner."My passion has always been Porsches and the plan is to run the full Carrera Cup season," says Willmott. "I'd like to think that by the end of the season I can be in the top 10, but I'm under no illusions about the level of competition."Willmott started racing with the 750MC in 2002 and raced MGs for several season in the MG Trophy before moving into Britcar last season, first with a BMW and then with the ex-Keith Butcher Porsche 996. Plans for Carrera Cup race winner Danny Watts to share the Porsche in an end-of-season race at Donington were thwarted by engine problems.Willmott had a first test in the car last week at Silverstone. "It’s a very new feeling and the sequential box is now to me, so I was just getting used to the car."
