Melchester Racing and Radical Motorsport have announced today that they are to work together over the next few seasons racing the fabulous SR9 Prototypes thus expanding the number of chassis competing in LMS.
Radical will continue to run their own LMP2 car and plan also to provide a second car to Melchester for drivers as yet to be nominated. Alongside this, Melchester would also like to acquire a further chassis and potential drivers for this car will be resolved in the near future. Both of these cars will be run from Melchester’s new race HQ in South Godstone, Surrey.
As publicised last year, Melchester and Radical are also striving to put together a deal to run at least one SR9 in LMP1 guise running on clean biofuel and will work to gain an invitation for an entry into the Le Mans 24 Hour race in June.
Commenting on the alliance between the works and Melchester, Radical Chairman Tim Greaves stated that he was delighted with the commitment shown by Melchester and that he was satisfied that they would contribute to the overall on-track performance of the SR9. He confirmed that the factory will run their own singleton entry and development car, whilst focusing on their core business of manufacturing cost effective, high performance sportscars for every level of the sport.
Melchester’s Brian Morris said, “The SR9 was truly the most competitive new car of 2006 and with the lessons learned from its first season on the track it will surely be a front runner in 2007. The original design is basically to LMP1 regulations and therefore we see great synergy in running both classes in parallel. Our technical agreement with Ricardo for our biofuel project brings added expertise and experience and should ensure that our partnership with the Radical factory and Judd Engines is optimised. Our longer term aim will be to run a biodiesel engine and Judd and Ricardo have started making strides in this direction. In working with Radical over the past few months we see the benefits of running the programme together but in competition on the track. An exciting year beckons.”
