Mauger joins BHRC
Rallying veteran Dick Mauger is the latest in a growing band of drivers converting to the MSA Dunlop/Gambia British Historic Rally Championship this year. Mauger will make his historic rallying debut on the Robin Hood when he rallies the Group 4 Escort Mk2 that he first drove 20 years ago. Best known in recent times for campaigning an Escort WRC, Mauger is now switching the BHRC and is looking forward to getting back to his rallying roots."I've been rallying for the best part of 40 years and I've run the Escort WRC for a while, but I'm taking a bit of a step back now," he says. "We're just going to get back into what we were doing years ago."I grew up with Group 4 Escorts and I haven't used this car regularly for about 15 years. We've converted it back to historic spec as I decided I’d got to do some historic rallying before I got much older!"The Oxfordshire farmer aims to do as many BHRC rounds as he can, but admits that he has not done much rallying on gravel in recent seasons. "The BHRC is so competitive, so we're just going out to enjoy ourselves."Mauger has enjoyed great success over a long career of regional rallying, but has not used the Escort since the Monteburg rally sprint around five years ago. His son Simon also rallies and they have four Mk2s between them.
