Porsche Club Great Britain have announced that Apex Tubulars, Aberdeen-based suppliers of down-hole casing and tubing to the oil and gas sector, will be title sponsors of the Porsche Club Championship and Porsche Open in 2007. Jim Geddie, MD of Apex, will be racing a Porsche 997 in the Porsche Open, and the motorsport sponsorship sees the Scot combining his two favourite sports.
"We also sponsor Aberdeen Football Club," explains Jim, "so this lets me combine my two sporting loves - football and motorsport.
"I had good fun, and some good results, when I sampled the Porsche Open last season, and the Open is a great series - competitive, well-run, but with a good friendly bunch of guys. I've bought myself a 997 from France to drive this year and I'm busy testing ready for the new season."
The two championships will now be known as the Apex Tubulars Porsche Club Championship and the Apex Tubulars Porsche Open
"It is always nice when companies want to get involved with the Porsche Club," commented series co-ordinator Steve Kevlin, "and this year we have a number of companies where the MD takes is actively involved in our motorsport."
In addition to Apex Tubulars, companies supporting the two series include PMC Midlands, run by Open racer Peter Morris, Michelin Tyres, and VFS vehicle conversions. Entries for the two race series are now totalling over 40 drivers.
